Join us for our monthly Garden Chat

We welcome gardeners at all stages of native gardening from beginner to expert as we share our knowledge and experiences with each other.

We will walk the Kollar Nursery property and discuss the important and diverse plants that our pollinators and indigenous animals depend upon, and where to plant them and how they grow. It will be the peak of summer and beginning of autumn, so there should be lots in bloom.

Kollar Nursery has been growing plants native to the eastern United States since 1985.

This event is free and limited to 20 participants.

Learn about Monarchs’ miraculous metamorphosis from egg to caterpillar to chrysalis to butterfly and what you can do to help.

Join us for a landscape tour of Towson Area private properties. These native gardens are on privately owned properties featuring many different conditions - sun, shade, woods, rain gardens, and water bodies such as ponds and streams.

You may visit all or a subset of the gardens at your own pace during the 2-hour event. The hosts will be available to answer questions.

Join Wild Ones Honorary Director Heather Holm as she explores the nesting habitats, life cycles, pollen collection, brood rearing, and general characteristics of some of the most common native bees in eastern North America, while highlighting the pollination of native plants and the mutualism between native plants and native bees.

When creating and managing thriving habitats for native bees, many factors such as seasonal phenology, nesting strategies, and flower preferences must be considered—and with approximately 3,600 species in North America (north of Mexico), there are many unique aspects to keep in mind when managing successful landscapes for bees. 

Fall is the perfect time to thin out some of your robust Maryland native plants and to get some new native plants in the ground! 

Let’s get together, talk about native gardening, and share our spreading plants looking for new homes. 

Join us even if you are new to native gardening and do not have anything to share yet. We are happy to help new gardeners get started.

This comprehensive compendium is a treasure trove of knowledge for gardeners looking to incorporate native prairie plants into their landscapes. Neil and Hilary will delve into the making and application of this essential guide, sharing rich historical and ecological insights about prairie ecosystems, all while showcasing stunning images of prairie flora.
